District Technology Vision Statement
Orchard View Schools’ primary technology focus is to assist students in preparing for a successful transition from high school to higher education or the job market. In addition, Orchard View believes that the district has a responsibility to use technology in ways that assist parents as well as training the general community.
PCs and other forms of technology are viewed as tools. Thus, computer and network technology is not limited to a stand-alone topic of learning but is an integrated means to an end. Computer related skills are developed throughout the student’s career at Orchard View and progresses by expanding and broadening the types of technology, applications and the ability to use these items to achieve the vision.
District Technology Goals
Orchard View Schools’ Technology plan endorses and follows the National Plan for Technology in Education. The major goals are:
1. All teachers in the nation will have the training and support they need to help students learn through computers and the Information Superhighway.
2. All teachers and students will have modern computers in their classrooms.
3. Every classroom will be connected to the Information Superhighway.
4. Effective and engaging software and online learning resources will be an integral part of every school curriculum.
The above goals are reflected in the district strategic plan via a district professional development plan and a K-12 technology committee, which reports to a district curriculum committee.
The Orchard View network is as an integral tool used by the district to conduct daily business throughout the school system. The network is used for administrative and record-keeping tasks, communications by staff/teachers within the school system, and for external work with MAISD and other organizations, such as Adult & Community Education computer literacy programs, and Orchard View Work Force Development.
In addition, Orchard View recognizes that technology is means to an end, a tool used in helping students achieve the academic goals as well as helping students acclimate to “real-world” technology used in business and industry. It should be noted that the successful implementation of strategies to accomplish the above goals are based on adequate funding being available.
